Understanding Fayette County Inmate Release
A Fayette County Jail release record answers when the jail gave up physical custody, the authority for that action, and the destination recorded at the time. That is different from a court docket, which explains the bond, order, disposition, commitment, or sentence behind the change. It is also different from a PA DOC parole record, which shows that a state prisoner entered supervision. Reliable confirmation often needs two of those records.
Leaving the county roster does not have one fixed meaning. Someone may go home after bond, time served, sentence expiration, dismissal, or another court order. Another person may be committed to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, transferred to a different county, or moved under federal or immigration authority. Only the first group clearly represents direct community release from the county jail.
Fayette County Release Types Explained
The words attached to a custody change determine what to check next. Fayette County records may reflect a release into the community, a transfer that preserves confinement elsewhere, or a form of supervision that continues after the jail door. These distinctions keep a court event from being mistaken for a completed physical release.
| Release type | Meaning and next source |
|---|---|
| Bond, ROR, or unsecured release | The case continues after required documents are executed. Compare the court bond entry with the jail's actual release time. |
| Time served or sentence expiration | The custodial part ends, though another case, supervision term, fine, detainer, or registration duty may remain. |
| Parole or probation | Parole is conditional release before a maximum term. Probation is court-ordered community supervision and may follow jail or begin without prison. |
| Dismissal, acquittal, or court order | The cited case no longer supports custody, but another hold can still prevent community release. |
| Transfer or commitment | Custody passes to PA DOC, another county, USMS, BOP, or ICE. The person has not necessarily entered the community. |
| Discharge | The applicable agency or sentence lane ends. A discharge is not the same event as release into parole supervision. |
- Release authority
- The bond, sentence, court order, parole action, or other basis permitting the custody change.
- Receiving agency
- The next custodian when the event is a transfer rather than freedom in the community.
- Actual release date
- The recorded date confinement ended, not a forecast based on a minimum sentence.
- Discharge
- The end of an agency's jurisdiction or sentence lane, which may occur after a period of supervision.
What Fayette County Release Records Show
Fayette County does not publish a field dictionary for a public release feed. The useful fields below are therefore focused request targets, not a promise that every item exists or must be disclosed in every case. Asking for the booking or intake record together with the release log ties the person, confinement event, and custody change to the same transaction.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Full name, aliases, date of birth | Identity details used to separate people with similar names. |
| Booking number and booking time | The particular Fayette County Jail stay connected to the release. |
| Arresting agency, docket, or OTN | The law enforcement and court record that can corroborate the event. |
| Charges and bond data | The case context, bond type, amount, and status as recorded. |
| Release date and time | The jail's operational timestamp for relinquishing custody. |
| Authority, type, or reason | Whether release followed bond, sentence completion, a court order, or another basis. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether the person entered the community or passed to another custodian. |
| Booking photograph | An identity image that should be requested separately if needed; it does not prove conviction or release. |
Does a docket give the release time? Usually not. It can show the legal event that permitted release, while the jail entry supplies the physical processing time.
Requesting Fayette County Release Records
The county's Open Records page provides its policy, county request form, fee schedule, and current submission channels. Address a focused request to Agency Open Records Officer Morgan Keteles at 61 East Main Street, Uniontown, PA 15401, or call 724-430-1200 for routing. Email, mail, fax, and in-person channels are identified by the county, and the live page should be checked for the current email address.
- Identify the person by full name and, if known, date of birth, booking number, docket or OTN. Limit the request to a reasonable date range.
- Ask for existing booking or intake records and the release or discharge entry, including date, time, authority, type, and destination if recorded.
- Request the booking photograph separately or state it as a distinct item. Ask for reasonably segregable public parts if some fields are withheld.
- Choose electronic copies when practical. Keep proof of submission and all response timestamps in case an appeal deadline becomes relevant.
The request itself is free, and simple inspection is not charged merely because a person views a public record. Duplication, certification, postage, special media, or other allowed costs may apply under the current schedule. Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law ordinarily calls for a response within five business days, though an agency may use a 30-calendar-day extension when statutory conditions apply. The agency must provide a legal basis for a denial, but it need not create a new chronology or calculate an answer that no existing record contains.
The county has not published a jail-release retention period. The Right-to-Know Law is an access law, not a retention schedule, and the Office of Open Records says it has no jurisdiction over retention. PA DOC's two-year releasing-facility rule applies only to DOC records and must not be treated as Fayette County Jail policy.
When Fayette County Bond Becomes Release
Fayette County's official bond instructions separate posting money or securing ROR from the later physical exit. ROR and unsecured bond require no cash. Straight or percentage monetary bond is posted in person with the Clerk by 3:30 p.m. using an accepted guaranteed or cash form of payment and valid identification. It cannot be posted online, by telephone, or by credit card.
After 4 p.m., on weekends, or on holidays, the county directs monetary bond posting to the jail. The jail does not accept cash for this purpose and requires a money order. In every lane, all documents must be signed and executed before release. A payment receipt or docket timestamp therefore establishes part of the legal process, not the time the person crossed the jail door. Call the published jail number when same-day timing matters.
Note: Fayette County publishes bond channels and cutoffs, but it does not promise a release hour after payment or document execution.
Fayette County Court Records After Release
The Fayette County Clerk of Courts maintains verdicts, sentences, orders, bail, commitments, and dispositions for Court of Common Pleas criminal matters. That court trail can last after a live jail entry disappears. Use the free UJS Case Search, select Fayette County and the right criminal docket type, then search by docket number or OTN when possible. A name plus date of birth is a useful fallback, but identity still needs careful matching.
The Docket Sheet report should be read as a whole. Bond, disposition, sentencing, commitment, and later orders may explain why custody changed. Recent entries can lag or be incomplete, and the docket does not record the jail's door time. A sentence minimum identifies an eligibility point, not a promise that a person left then. Reconcile the legal trail with the jail release entry, a DOC record, or a Board Action.
The official UJS search image below shows the court channel used to trace Fayette County release authority. The portal remains a legal-record source, while the custodial agency remains the source for physical release.
Matching a docket identifier to a booking number reduces the risk of combining records for two people with similar names.
Property After a Fayette County Release
Fayette County's property instructions cover a limited situation while a person remains confined. The inmate submits a Request Slip, staff reviews it, and approved property is provided to a third party on the next appropriate visiting day. That rule does not say how final property is handed over at release, where an authorized pickup should wait, or whether a different process applies after custody ends.
Release-day property questions should go directly to Fayette County Jail at 724-430-1222. Ask what identification the person collecting property needs, which items remain available, and how the procedure changes once release has been processed. A record error follows a similar custody rule: jail fields go to the jail record custodian, while a mistaken docket entry goes to the filing court. One office cannot be assumed to edit the other office's system.
Fayette County Release Records and Expungement
Fayette County's local expungement procedure is specific. The Clerk lists a nonrefundable $185.20 filing fee and requires a PSP Central Repository Individual Access and Review response dated within 60 days. That history request is submitted by mail, not online or at a barracks, with a $20 certified check or money order and photo identification. The local page distinguishes Rule 490 for an MDJ disposition from Rule 790 for a Common Pleas matter and asks for an original plus three copies.
When there is no consent, the county gives the District Attorney 30 days to review a summary matter and 60 days for a misdemeanor or felony. These are filing-process facts, not an opinion that a particular person qualifies. Clean Slate automatic limited access under Act 56 may occur without a fee, but it is not expungement, and the Clerk does not decide eligibility.
Sealed, expunged, and limited-access cases do not appear in the public UJS results. Some older matters were never migrated, and certain MDJ dockets leave the public web after their retention period. A missing docket is therefore no proof that custody or release never occurred. Pennsylvania's relevant statutory anchors include 18 Pa.C.S. §§ 9122, 9122.1, and 9122.2.
Old Fayette County Jail Release Records
The current Fayette County Jail was completed on February 21, 2024, at the former Army Reserve Center site. The county describes the new institution as a 114,500-square-foot building with 330 beds and 170 cells. It replaced the jail dating to 1892, and 157 people were moved into the new facility on its first day.
This history changes how an older release search should be framed. County pages may alternate between “Fayette County Jail” and the historic “Fayette County Prison,” while past documents can carry the former downtown address. A request should rely on the person's name, booking number or date, docket, and responsible agency instead of assuming that an address settles which record is sought. Current jail contacts point to McClellandtown Road.
Find a Released Fayette County Inmate
A strong Fayette County released inmate search follows the last known custodian. Repeating the same name across unrelated databases can produce convincing but false matches. Preserve the date and time of each check because the county roster, court docket, DOC locator, and notification network do not update on one schedule.
- Check the official Fayette inmate lookup or county-linked sheriff app only to test current county custody. If the name is gone, record the time without calling it a release.
- Call Fayette County Jail at 724-430-1222. Ask whether the office can confirm a custody change and which custodian holds the release or transfer record.
- Search the UJS portal by docket, OTN, or carefully matched identity. Read bond, commitment, disposition, sentence, and later orders together.
- Use the PA DOC inmate or supervised-individual locator only if a state sentence or SCI Fayette is involved. Its parolee Release Date is actual, not projected.
- Use PA SAVIN through VINELink for a named-person custody search and release, escape, or movement notifications. Treat movement as a custody change until its destination is known.
- Contact Fayette County Adult Probation for county supervision. Use BOP or ICE only after the record identifies that federal or immigration lane.
- File a focused county RTKL request for the release time, type, authority, and destination when the online trail cannot settle the event.
The similarly named sheriff site with a West Union address and 563 telephone code belongs to Fayette County, Iowa. It is not a Pennsylvania release source. Use the county's `fayettecountypa.org` pages and the official state systems to avoid crossing jurisdictions.
Fayette County Jail Roster Limits
At the research date, the official Fayette inmate lookup displayed an update-pending message and directed users to the Fayette County PA Sheriff app for the most up-to-date roster. The county-linked app is available through Google Play and the Apple App Store. Official material reviewed did not verify a Recent Releases tab, released-person photographs, a public update cadence, or the length of time a former inmate remains visible.
No official rolling 24-hour list, 72-hour list, release archive, or booking-level release-date field was found. The defensible fallback is a time-stamped roster check, direct jail confirmation, PA SAVIN, the UJS legal trail, and a county release-record request. PA DOC belongs in that chain only when the person moved into state custody.
The county lookup image below documents the limited current-custody route and its app direction. It should not be read as a historical released-inmate feed.
A missing name can reflect community release, transfer, delayed data, escape, or death, so the source release record still matters.
PA DOC Search for Fayette County Releases
The PA DOC locator service covers Pennsylvania state-sentenced inmates and parolees and is updated daily. It excludes ordinary county detainees and people held by another state. Start with a DOC or parole number when known, or use a surname alone and narrow a common-name result. Some personal information comes from other sources and is not independently verified.
The inmate side can show inmate number, name, date of birth or age, location, details, and a DOC photograph. The supervised-individual side permits searches by name, sex, race, county, parole number, and Release Date. Results may show a parole number, identity data, actual Release Date, Current Location, Permanent Location, last update, and a Wanted: Parole Absconder marker. Current Location describes supervision context and does not itself prove incarceration.
No generic Projected Release Date or Tentative Release Date field was found in the public locator. An actively supervised person's Release Date records release from confinement into supervision, not final sentence discharge. For an unreleased state prisoner, use the sentencing docket's minimum and maximum terms and ask DOC records or sentence computation for an authoritative calculation. A fully discharged person may eventually fall outside a locator limited to current DOC jurisdiction, so old searches may require the UJS docket and DOC records.
Where Fayette County Release Status Appears
Each public system answers a narrow question. Checking the correct lane is faster and more reliable than treating every search result as the same kind of release proof.
| Source | What it can establish | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Fayette roster or sheriff app | Whether a person appears in current county custody | Absence is not a release record, and no history window is promised |
| County release record | Actual release time, authority, type, and destination if recorded | Must usually be requested from the custodian |
| UJS docket | Bond, disposition, sentence, commitment, and court orders | Can lag and does not show the physical door time |
| PA DOC locator | State custody or actual release into state parole supervision | Does not cover ordinary county custody or promise a permanent archive |
| PA SAVIN or VINELink | Named-person release, escape, or movement notification | A movement event may be a transfer rather than community release |
| BOP or ICE locator | Federal BOP status or current and limited recent ICE status | Neither is a general Fayette County release search |
Fayette County Release Supervision and Reentry
Pennsylvania divides post-release responsibility among separate agencies. The Pennsylvania Parole Board decides parole for eligible state prisoners, PA DOC field services supervises state parolees, and Fayette County Adult Probation and Parole handles county-court supervision. A person released from Fayette County Jail on county probation does not become searchable in the state DOC locator merely because supervision follows.
Fayette County Adult Probation and Parole is at 22 East Main Street, third floor, Uniontown, PA 15401, with telephone 724-430-1251. Contact the office to confirm the proper reporting route for a known county-court matter, subject to what staff may disclose. For state parole, use the DOC supervised-individual search and the official parole-office directory or Pittsburgh district map rather than guessing coverage from an office address.
The county office hosts the Fayette County Reentry Coalition, which states that all justice-involved people on county or state supervision may receive an agency referral or self-refer. The jail also lists I.G.N.I.T.E., substance-recovery groups, parenting services, GED-related work, and other release-preparation programs. These are local navigation resources, not evidence that a person was released or a promise of a result.
Fayette County Release Alerts Through PA SAVIN
PA SAVIN registration, reached through VINELink, covers county jails, state prisons, and state parole. A person can search for a named individual in Pennsylvania, match identity with care, and choose Get Notified for release, escape, or movement alerts. Registration supports telephone, text, email, and app channels. The assistance line is 1-866-972-7284, with TTY help at 1-866-847-1298.
Online registration proceeds from Get Notified to an offered contact channel, then to Next: PIN and a chosen four-digit PIN. A telephone registration uses the hotline prompts and the same type of PIN. Entering the PIN plus `#` acknowledges an automated call and stops repeat calls for that event. An unanswered call may generate another attempt, and hotline staff can help with a forgotten PIN.
A SAVIN alert corroborates a reported custody change but should not stand alone. Movement can mean transfer. The Office of Victim Advocate offers a separate notification layer for eligible people because SAVIN does not provide parole-review eligibility or parole-decision notice. The PSP Megan's Law registry is narrower still and applies only to people legally required to register; it does not supply a jail release time.
Federal Transfers From Fayette County Jail
A 2025 Fayette jail-board agreement permits up to 30 federal prisoners to occupy county-jail beds at a reported $96 per day. Local reporting on the agreement says ICE was among the authorized agencies but was expected to use the arrangement only exceptionally. The agreement did not create a separate federal prison or ICE detention center in Fayette County. A federal detainee can therefore be housed in the same building while remaining in a different legal and record lane.
If a Fayette County release record names USMS or BOP as the receiver, use the BOP locator for a federal sentence. It searches by federal identifier or carefully matched name and can show a Release Date, Location, Released, or Not in BOP Custody. Those results do not exclude another custodian or federal supervised release. USMS handles federal pretrial custody but offers no general public released-prisoner locator, so the federal court docket and agency confirmation may be needed.
If the record names ICE, use ODLS with an exact A-number and country of birth, or exact name, country, and date of birth. ICE describes coverage for current detainees and a limited trace of people released from ICE custody within 60 days. An ICE detainer requests notice and up to 48 additional hours for transfer, but the detainer alone does not prove ICE took custody. County-roster removal is not community release when the next custodian is federal.
Fayette County Release Facilities
Two adult facilities form the local custody map, and each requires a different release search. The Fayette County Jail at 254 McClellandtown Road, Uniontown, holds people awaiting case outcomes and people serving county sentences. Its releases may go directly to the community, into county supervision, or to PA DOC, another county, USMS, BOP, or ICE. Call 724-430-1222 for current custody and release-record routing.
SCI Fayette at 50 Overlook Drive, La Belle, is a maximum-security men's state prison operated by PA DOC. A person may move to community corrections, enter state parole supervision, discharge at the judicial maximum, or transfer. Verify those events through the DOC locator, Board Action, sentencing docket, PA SAVIN or OVA notice, or a DOC records request, not the county jail roster. SCI Fayette's telephone number is 724-364-2200.
Note: The facility that last held the person determines which agency can verify release, transfer, supervision, or final discharge.
