Where Fayette County Jail Releases Go
Fayette County Jail holds adults awaiting case disposition and people convicted and sentenced to county confinement. A person may leave directly for the community after bond, time served, dismissal, sentence expiration, or another court order. Fayette County Adult Probation may supervise a county-court case after release. The release record should identify the authority or reason and, when recorded, the destination.
Other departures preserve custody. A commitment to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections sends the person into the state-prison system. A federal writ, transfer to USMS or BOP, ICE assumption of custody, or movement to another county also changes the custodian without proving freedom in the community. PA DOC and federal locators are follow-up tools only when the jail record points to those lanes.
Confirm a Fayette County Jail Release
The county's official inmate lookup tests current custody. At the research date, its web component said an update was pending and directed users to the Fayette County PA Sheriff app for the most current roster. The county has not published a 24-hour list, 72-hour list, release archive, booking-level release-date field, update cadence, or online retention promise.
- Check the county lookup or linked sheriff app and save the date and time. Treat an absent name as a clue rather than a confirmed release.
- Call Fayette County Jail at 724-430-1222. Ask which office can confirm the custody change and whether another agency became the custodian.
- Search the UJS portal by docket or OTN, or by carefully matched name and date of birth. Read bond, commitment, sentence, disposition, and later orders together.
- Use PA SAVIN through VINELink for a named-person release, escape, or movement alert. A movement notice may describe a transfer.
- Request the jail's release or discharge entry when the sources do not settle the actual time, type, authority, and destination.
PA DOC's locator excludes ordinary county detainees. It becomes relevant only after a state commitment or transfer. Likewise, the BOP and ICE searches are not general Fayette County Jail release tools. The broader Fayette County released inmate search and record route explains how to reconcile these custody systems when a person's path is uncertain.
Fayette County Jail Release Records
A jail release record answers the operational question: when did Fayette County Jail relinquish custody, under what authority, and to whom? A court docket answers the related legal question about a bond, order, disposition, commitment, or sentence. Neither record should automatically replace the other. The strongest confirmation joins the physical-custody entry to the legal event.
Ask for existing booking or intake material and the release log or discharge entry. Useful request targets include full name and aliases, date of birth, booking number and time, arresting agency, docket or OTN, charges, bond type and status, release date and time, release authority or reason, and destination or receiving agency. Request a booking photograph as a separate item if it is needed. Fayette County has not promised that every field exists or is public in every case.

A focused request should name the person, booking or docket identifier if known, and a narrow date range. Ask for existing records rather than an explanation or newly created timeline. Electronic copies can reduce duplication costs. The request itself is free, while allowed copying, certification, postage, or media costs may apply. The Right-to-Know Law ordinarily calls for an agency response within five business days, with a possible 30-calendar-day extension under statutory conditions.
Note: Fayette County publishes no jail-release retention period, and the Right-to-Know Law does not create a records-retention schedule.
Fayette County Jail Facility Profile
Fayette County operates the jail for pre-disposition detainees and people sentenced to county incarceration. Its official page names Warden John Lenkey, Deputy Warden of Treatment Angela Kern, and Major William Vanmeter. The county's pages use both “Fayette County Jail” and the historic “Fayette County Prison,” so either name may appear in search results or older custody records.
The official jail overview is the right starting point for the current institution and administration. Current-custody questions and release-routing questions should use the published McClellandtown Road telephone number rather than contact details copied from an old directory.
Why Fayette County Jail Records Show Two Locations
Fayette County completed the current jail on February 21, 2024, at the former Army Reserve Center site. It replaced an institution dating to 1892, and 157 people were moved into the new building on the first day. This local history affects release research because the former downtown jail and the McClellandtown Road facility can coexist in old documents, search results, and agency references.
The county's new-jail project page is shown in the successful source image below. Its facility facts identify the current institution, while a historical release request should use the person, booking date or number, docket, and agency to identify the older record.
The image helps explain why a reliable request does not depend on an address alone. Current contacts belong at 254 McClellandtown Road even when the responsive record carries the former prison name or downtown location.
Bond Release at Fayette County Jail
Fayette County's bond procedure separates posting bond from physically leaving the jail. ROR and unsecured bond require no cash. Straight or percentage monetary bond is posted in person at the Clerk by 3:30 p.m. with valid identification and an accepted guaranteed or cash form of payment. It cannot be posted online, by telephone, or by credit card.
After 4 p.m., on weekends, or on holidays, the county directs posting to Fayette County Jail. The jail does not accept cash for this transaction and requires a money order. All documents must be signed and executed before release. A payment receipt or docket entry can therefore establish a court-side event without proving the precise jail-door time. Call the jail for same-day processing information and use the release entry for the operational timestamp.
Fayette County Jail Property and Programs
The county's property instructions describe a narrow process while a person remains confined. The inmate submits a Request Slip, staff reviews the request, and authorized property is given to a third party on the next appropriate visiting day. It does not establish the final release-day handoff, the release exit, or the identification required after custody ends. Those details should be confirmed with the jail before pickup.
The official programs page lists I.G.N.I.T.E., NA and AA, Bible study, parenting through A Child's Place, Men in the Know, Free on the Inside, GED and JIAF work, Plans of Safe Care, and other preparation services. These programs can help with navigation before or after release, but participation does not verify release status and does not promise an outcome.
Fayette Area Coordinated Transportation serves county residents and provides route information and live tracking at 724-628-7433. No official source verified a stop at the jail, a jail-provided ride, a family waiting area, daily release hours, or a designated pickup point. Ask FACT about service to the exact address and ask jail staff where and when authorized pickup may occur. Shared-ride or paratransit reservations generally must be made by 2 p.m. on the prior business day, so same-day service should not be assumed.
Federal Custody Inside Fayette County Jail
The Fayette jail board approved an agreement in 2025 allowing up to 30 federal prisoners in county beds at a reported rate of $96 per day. Local reporting on the federal-bed agreement said ICE was among the authorized agencies but described its expected use as exceptional. This arrangement did not create a separate BOP prison or dedicated ICE detention center in Fayette County. People in the same building may therefore belong to different legal custody lanes.
If a county release record names USMS or BOP as the receiving agency, use the BOP inmate locator only for that federal path. A Released or Not in BOP Custody result does not exclude another jail system or federal supervision. USMS handles federal pretrial prisoners but has no general public released-prisoner locator, so a federal court docket and agency confirmation may be needed.
If the record names ICE, search the ICE detainee locator by exact A-number and country of birth, or exact name, country, and date of birth. ICE describes current custody and a limited recent-release trace. A detainer is a request for notice and up to 48 extra hours so ICE can assume custody, but the detainer alone does not prove that transfer occurred. Leaving Fayette County's roster for ICE is not community release.
Checking Fayette County Jail Release Claims
The jail's official warning says Fayette County Jail and county affiliates do not call, text, or email to ask for money on behalf of an incarcerated loved one. An urgent request for payment is not a release-verification channel. End the contact and call 724-430-1222 independently using the published number.
Court records can corroborate the legal reason for a custody change. The Fayette County Clerk of Courts maintains bail, commitments, verdicts, sentences, orders, and dispositions, while the UJS docket may lag and does not supply the physical release time. Match the docket or OTN to the booking, then reconcile the result with the jail record.
If the record shows a commitment to state custody, use the SCI Fayette release and offender-search route only when that facility or PA DOC became the custodian. County probation belongs to Fayette County Adult Probation, while state parole belongs to the Pennsylvania Parole Board and PA DOC field services. Selecting the next agency from the release destination keeps county, state, and federal records from being mixed.
